Replacing Burnout with Passion

Do you love your job, but feel burned out by the stress, fatigue, and roles that come with it?

Feeling stuck working from home or through virtual meetings when you used to be in a vibrant office?

Working more hours than normal and feeling like there is no margin between work and personal life?

Most careers took a dramatic shift over the last year and jobs that were once full of in-person meetings, vibrant community, and strong work relationships now look like working from our home-office, virtual meetings, and a gaping distance from co-workers. Maybe you do still work in an office, but with both personal and professional stress, you are left feeling burned out and not flourishing within your career!

Did you know that a recent study from Indeed showed that employee burnout is on the rise and “52% of all workers are feeling burned out?” This proves that employees, especially over the past year, are feeling the weight of mental health impacting their careers and even over-flowing into their personal lives. Here at Clarity Career Solutions, we want to give you a few practical tips to promote a healthy work-life balance, leave behind the burnout, and start to thrive in your workplace passions!

Know your Boundaries

One of the greatest challenges with most careers, especially for those who work from home, is establishing healthy workplace boundaries. Studies show that over 50% of full-time employees work more than 40 hours a week. Are you one of those people who continues to check emails all night after a long day of work? Or answer your phone at all times, even on a family vacation?

There are always exceptions to taking a late phone call and checking a work email, but we want to encourage you to set up some healthy workplace boundaries in order to enjoy your career and passion more! Here are a few practical and simple places to start:

  • Keep your work email and social media accounts off your phone

  • Set up automatic responses for emails and texts

  • Leverage screen time settings on your phone and turn apps off after 5 PM

  • Turn off work phone and computer during the weekends and on vacations

Utilize your Personal Time and Vacation Days

A majority of full-time and even part-time employees are compensated with paid time off, vacation days, and personal time.  Did you know that 55% of Americans don’t use their paid vacation days? You have the opportunity to get paid while sitting on the beach for 5 days! Why wouldn’t we take that?

Most of us don’t make it a priority, and when we work, work, work and neglect those opportunities for rest, that is when the burnout sets in. Set a goal to figure out what your benefits include and plan some time off. A personal day once a month is a great start, and taking a week off every year would prevent a majority of burnout in the future.

MAKE SELF CARE A PRIORITY

Make Self Care a Priority

There is a huge correlation between mental health and burnout. Stress is on the rise, there are little boundaries between personal and work lives, and self-care is usually the lowest on the priority list. Take some time today to make a list of what feels restful to you and begin to implement these things into your daily lives.

Here are some things you could apply to a self-care routine:

  • Exercise, going on walks, and doing yoga

  • Painting and creating

  • Reading and watching movies

  • Golfing, tennis, or hiking
